Armstrong Whitworth Whitley
The Armstrong Whitworth Whitley was one of a trio of twin-engine, medium bomber types available to the British Royal Air Force at the outbreak of World War II. The type took part in the first bombing attacks on German territory and remained in front line service until heavier, four-engined bombers replaced it. The type continued some front-line activities Coastal Command, performing maritime reconnaissance. The Whitley was later used as a glider-tug, a trainer and a transport aircraft.
